The cheapest part of owning a chamber sealer should be the bags. Smooth chamber pouches skip the embossed air channels that FoodSaver-style bags need, and Anova points to that simpler construction as the reason they are more affordable. Buy the wrong size or thickness, though, and you either waste film or end up with punctured bags in the freezer.
The right chamber vacuum sealer bags come down to three choices: size (set by your seal bar and chamber), thickness (3 mil for most food, thicker for bones), and use (freezer, sous vide, or long-term dry storage). Here are seven real products that cover those needs, followed by a sizing guide.

The best chamber vacuum sealer bags, reviewed
1. UltraSource 3 Mil Chamber Vacuum Sealer Bags: Best Overall
Who it's for: anyone who seals regularly and wants to stop thinking about bags.
UltraSource's 3 mil chamber pouches are the plain, bulk workhorse of this category. The film is BPA-free nylon and polyethylene, the sides are clear so you can see the contents, and each pouch has a tear notch. Sizes run from 6 x 10 in. (pint portions) through 8 x 12 in. (the most useful all-round size) to 10 x 13 and 10 x 15 in., in packs of 250 to 1,000.
These are storage pouches. UltraSource's listing positions them for meat, poultry, seafood, cheese and meal portions, and it does not make cooking claims. For sous vide, choose a bag the manufacturer rates for cooking. UltraSource is also clear that they will not work in external FoodSaver-style machines.
Pros
- Bulk packs bring the per-bag cost down
- Wide size range, including 10 x 15 in.
- Clear film and tear notch
Cons
- No cooking or sous vide rating on the listing
- 1,000-count boxes need storage space

2. Avid Armor ACPA32 Assorted Pouches: Best Variety Pack
Who it's for: new chamber owners, and anyone who seals a mix of single portions and family packs.
This 300-count box gives you 100 each of 6 x 10, 8 x 12 and 10 x 13 in. pouches, which is the fastest way to learn which sizes you actually use. At 3.5 mil, they are a touch heavier than standard 3 mil. Avid Armor lists them for freezer storage, sous vide, boiling, simmering and microwaving, which is the broadest use rating in this guide.
Note that the 10 x 13 in. pouches fit the Avid Armor USV32 and other machines with a long enough chamber, but not the USV20 (11 x 10 in. maximum) or USV1 (10 x 10 in.). Avid Armor tells buyers to confirm their chamber fits 10 x 13 in. pouches. If you own a USV20, buy the single-size 6 x 8, 6 x 10, 6 x 12 or 8 x 12 in. 250-packs instead.
Pros
- Three useful sizes in one box
- 3.5 mil film
- Rated for sous vide, boiling and microwaving
Cons
- 10 x 13 in. size does not fit smaller chambers
- Smaller total count than bulk boxes

3. UltraSource 4 Mil Chamber Vacuum Bags: Best Heavy-Duty
Who it's for: people sealing T-bones, ribs, crab legs, pork chops and anything else with a sharp edge, or food meant for a long freezer stay.
The jump from 3 to 4 mil sounds small, but UltraSource says the added thickness improves puncture resistance and handling durability. That is the difference that matters when a bone edge rubs a bag in a crowded chest freezer. The same nylon and polyethylene construction, BPA-free film and tear notch carry over, and you can choose 8 x 10, 8 x 12, 8 x 15 or 10 x 12 in.
Thicker film takes a little more heat to seal. If your seal looks cloudy or weak, add a second of seal time.
Pros
- Better puncture resistance for bones
- Same clarity and tear notch as the 3 mil line
- 8 x 15 in. size for long cuts
Cons
- Costs more per bag than 3 mil
- Overkill for boneless food and soups

4. Hamilton Beach Commercial PrimaVac Pouches: Best NSF-Certified
Who it's for: restaurants, caterers and cottage-food businesses whose inspector or HACCP plan asks about packaging.
Hamilton Beach Commercial's PrimaVac pouches (item HVCP40812) are 4 mil, 8 x 12 in., BPA-free, NSF certified and sold 1,000 to a case, per the Amazon listing. The 4 mil film is a step heavier than standard 3 mil pouches, which helps with bone-in cuts and frozen edges. The brand's 3 mil 8 x 12 in. pouch (HVCP30812) is sold mainly through restaurant-supply dealers, and we did not find it on Amazon. For a home user these are simply sturdy 8 x 12 in. pouches; for a business, the NSF certification is the point.
Pros
- NSF certified
- 4 mil film for bones and frozen edges
- 1,000-count case
Cons
- One size per case
- Costs more per bag than 3 mil
- Detailed temperature ratings not stated on the listing

5. LEM MaxVac Pro Chamber Bags: Best for Hunters
Who it's for: deer, elk and salmon season, when you need a few hundred bags in a weekend.
LEM sells processing gear to hunters, and its MaxVac Pro chamber bags reflect that. The film is a 3.15 mil plastic and nylon combination, the sides are smooth and clear so you can spot air pockets, and LEM lists them for meats, liquids and powdered ingredients, as well as sous vide. They come 250 to a box in 6 x 9, 8 x 10 and 10 x 13 in. The 10 x 13 in. size is a good match for VacMaster VP210 and VP215 chambers.
Pros
- Sized for game processing
- Rated for liquids and sous vide
- Clear sides make air pockets easy to spot
Cons
- Fewer sizes than UltraSource
- 250-count boxes run out fast in a big season

6. Anova Precision Chamber Vacuum Sealer Pouches: Best for Anova Owners
Who it's for: owners of the Anova Precision Chamber Vacuum Sealer and sous vide cooks who want a pouch sized to that machine.
Anova's pouches (model ANCB01) come 100 to a box at roughly 9.8 x 11 in., sized for the Anova chamber's 11.8 in. seal bar. Anova makes them plastic neutral through a partnership with Plastic Bank. Anova does not list a thickness, and 100 pouches go quickly if you seal weekly, so many owners will use these for cooking and a bulk brand for freezer storage.
Pros
- Sized for the Anova chamber sealer
- Plastic-neutral program
Cons
- Thickness not listed
- Small box; one size

7. LEM MaxVac Pro Mylar Bags: Best Mylar
Who it's for: preppers and bulk buyers storing rice, beans, grains, coffee and freeze-dried food.
Clear pouches let light through, and over months light degrades fats and flavor in dry goods. LEM's MaxVac Pro Mylar bags add a foil layer to block light. They are 7 mil thick, BPA-free, 8 x 10 in., and sold in packs of 50. LEM states they are heat safe only up to 176 °F (80 °C) and are not reusable, so treat them as storage bags, not cooking bags. They work in chamber sealers; on external sealers LEM says you will need longer seal time or higher heat.
For the full picture on long-term storage, including oxygen absorbers, see our Mylar vacuum seal bags guide.
Pros
- Foil layer blocks light
- 7 mil puncture-resistant film
- Works in chamber sealers without special settings
Cons
- Not for sous vide or boiling (176 °F limit)
- You cannot see the contents

How to choose chamber vacuum sealer bags
Smooth chamber pouches vs embossed vacuum sealer bags
External sealers pull air out through the bag's mouth, so they need embossed or channeled bags to keep an air path open. A chamber sealer removes air from the whole chamber, so a smooth pouch works perfectly. Embossed bags also work in a chamber, but you pay extra for texture that does nothing. The reverse does not work: chamber pouches will not seal properly in an external sealer. Our chamber vs external vacuum sealer comparison explains the mechanics.
Thickness: 3 mil, 4 mil and up
A mil is a thousandth of an inch. In practice:
- 3 to 3.5 mil: most meat, fish, vegetables, soups and meal prep.
- 4 mil and up: bone-in cuts, shellfish, sharp-edged items and long freezer storage.
- About 7 mil Mylar: dry goods that need light protection. Many chamber sealers, including VacMaster's VP210 and VP230, are rated to seal Mylar up to 7 mil.
Thicker film needs slightly more seal time. If the seal line looks hazy or peels apart, add heat in small steps.
Size the pouch to your seal bar and chamber
Two limits apply. The pouch's open end must be no wider than the seal bar, and the pouch must lie in the chamber with its mouth across the bar. Check your machine's stated maximum pouch:
| Machine | Seal bar | Maximum pouch |
|---|---|---|
| Avid Armor USV1 | 10 in. | 10 x 10 in. |
| Avid Armor USV20 | 11.5 in. | 11 x 10 in. |
| Avid Armor USV32 | 11.5 in. | 11 x 13 in. |
| VacMaster VP210 / VP215 | 10.25 in. | 10 x 13 in. |
| VacMaster VP230 | 12.25 in. | 12 x 15 in. |
Leave about 1.5 to 2 in. of empty bag above the food so the seal sits on clean, flat film. Our best chamber vacuum sealers guide lists more machines and their limits.
Material and BPA
Chamber pouches are usually a laminate of nylon (for strength and as an oxygen barrier) and polyethylene (the layer that melts to form the seal). Neither is made with BPA, and every product in this guide that lists its material states it is BPA-free. Hamilton Beach Commercial's PrimaVac pouches add NSF certification, which matters for commercial kitchens.
Cooking ratings
If a bag goes into a sous vide bath, a pot of simmering water or the microwave, use one the manufacturer rates for it. Avid Armor's ACPA32 pouches list sous vide, boiling, simmering and microwave use, and LEM lists its standard MaxVac Pro bags for sous vide. LEM's Mylar bags are rated only to 176 °F. For more on bags in the water bath, see our best vacuum sealers for sous vide.
Pouches or rolls?
Chamber machines use pre-cut pouches because the bag has to fit in the chamber. Rolls belong to external sealers, where bag length is unlimited. If you also own an external sealer for long cuts, see our vacuum sealer rolls picks.
Liquids
Any chamber pouch holds liquids, but fill pouches no more than about half full and chill the liquid first. Our guide to vacuum sealing liquids has the step-by-step method.
Bags do not change food-safety rules
A thicker or better bag slows freezer burn, but USDA FSIS notes that freezer burn is a quality issue, not a safety one, and that food kept constantly at 0 °F stays safe. In the refrigerator, sealed perishables still need 40 °F or below. Clemson Cooperative Extension stresses that vacuum packaging is not a substitute for refrigeration or freezing.
How we chose
We did not test these bags. We selected them by researching manufacturer and official retail listings for thickness, material, sizes and use ratings, favoring established packaging and sealer brands sold in bulk, and by matching sizes to the maximum pouch limits that machine makers publish. We left out any claim that the manufacturer does not state.
FAQ
Can you use regular vacuum sealer bags in a chamber vacuum sealer?
Yes. Embossed bags made for FoodSaver-style sealers work in a chamber machine as long as they fit the chamber and seal bar. They just cost more, and the texture does nothing in a chamber, so smooth chamber pouches are the better buy.
Can chamber vacuum sealer bags be used in a FoodSaver?
No. Smooth chamber pouches have no air channels, so an external sealer cannot pull air out of them. UltraSource and Avid Armor both label their chamber pouches as not for external suction sealers.
What thickness of chamber vacuum bag should I buy?
Use 3 mil for everyday meat, fish, vegetables and soups. Step up to about 3.5 to 4 mil for bone-in cuts, crab legs or long freezer storage. Use Mylar, often 7 mil, for dry goods you want to protect from light and oxygen.
Are chamber vacuum sealer bags BPA-free?
Most are made from nylon and polyethylene, which are not made with BPA, and many brands state it. UltraSource, Avid Armor, Hamilton Beach Commercial and LEM all list BPA-free materials on the products in this guide.
Can chamber vacuum bags be used for sous vide?
Many can, but check the label. Avid Armor lists its ACPA32 pouches for sous vide, boiling, simmering and microwaving. LEM rates its Mylar bags as heat safe only up to 176 °F, so they are for storage, not cooking.
What size chamber bag do I need?
Pick a pouch narrower than your seal bar and short enough to lie flat in the chamber. A 10.25 in. bar takes 10 in. wide pouches; an 11.5 in. bar takes 11 in. pouches. Check your machine's maximum pouch size, such as 11 x 10 in. on the Avid Armor USV20 or 10 x 13 in. on the VacMaster VP210.
Verdict
For most chamber owners, UltraSource 3 Mil pouches in 8 x 12 in. are the best everyday chamber vacuum sealer bags, bought by the thousand. Keep a box of UltraSource 4 Mil for bony cuts, start with the Avid Armor ACPA32 assortment if you are new, and use LEM's Mylar bags for dry goods that need to stay in the dark.
